Technology Education
Students in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades are exposed to technology education through a required nine-week rotation. Students learn about safety, a model rocket project, CO2 dragsters, Construction & CAD, Multimedia, Waste Management, Graphic Design, Desktop publishing, CAM/CNC Mill, Electronics and Control Systems, Manufacturing and Automation, Pneumatics, Aerodynamics, Lasers and Fiber Optics, Power and Energy, and Alternate Energy. Six hundred students enroll in this course annually.
Also available as an elective for students is an everyday technology class which runs year-round. It covers all the topics of the nine-week rotation plus a series of applications including Design and Modeling, Science of Technology, Automation and Robotics, Mechanical Gears, and Structural Engineering. Sixty students -- the maximum allowed given the available time and staff resources -- complete this course each year.
The year-round tech class utilizes STEM education curriculum from Project Lead the Way.
